Brenda Norman Double Derwent attempt
I would like to thank everyone who supported my Double Derwent attempt. I was happy with how I swam but I was simply overpowered by the conditions on the upstream leg.
I completed the first leg of the Derwent River Big Swim in 7 hours and 47 minutes. On the return leg, my pace dropped below 2kms/hr due to the strong currents and wind, and led to my decision to abort my swim at the Bowen Bridge. In total, I covered 41kms in 11 hours and 11 minutes.
I would like to thank my team for physiologically preparing me for this epic challenge; Robert Butcher (‘Butch’) my coach, Pat Arnold my physiotherapist and Darren Seabrook my masseuse. My pilots from Sea Rescue Tasmania (Phil, Clinton, Edward, Nick, Joe & David) did an amazing job navigating my course and my support crew, Richard Jones & Ava Richards, ensured I could ‘just keep swimming.’ I would also like to thank everyone for their support and encouragement. 🐠
